Territorial Force Third Line and Trianing Battalions

Most of the Territorial Force Bns had formed a Third Line (denoted by a fractional number e.g. 3/4th) by June 1915. These Third Line Bns were used to supply reinforcements to the First and Second Line Bns. The Bns were organised into groups corresponding to the 14 Territorial Force Divisions in the autumn of 1915. In April 1916 the Bns became Reserve Bns and lost the fractional number e.g. the 3/4th Bn became the 4th (Reserve) Bn. On the 1st September 1916 the Groups were into brigades, this reorganisation also involved some of the Reserve Bns being absorbed.

Below is listed all the Third Line and some Second and Fourth Line Bns (which had the same training role). They are organised showing all the various changes into their groups and eventually their Brigades.
